A master at work
never thought my particular kit could sound any better than it already did but after John had worked his magic on it I have to say I'm totally amazed by the sonic improvements so like most on here I have no option but to give a 5 star rating and to say thanks a lot John your a real star.
Musical Fidelity X-P100 and X-AS100s
System: MF X-P100, 2x X-AS100, X-RAY, Michell Gyrodeck and B&M CDM9-NT speakers.
Dealing with John was a pleasure, a real gentleman. He repaired and upgraded the X-P100 and upgraded the X-AS100s.
I’m really made-up with the sound; more detail, more bass, much bigger soundstage, better balance between lows and highs, and more natural sounding.
Previously my system only really sounded great at anti-social volume levels. At low levels there was little bass, as if it needed the Loudness button off an ‘80s Amstrad. Now longer, it sounds great whatever the volume level.
From what I’ve read the CDM-9NT’s are difficult speakers, and only really shine with amps that have plenty of muscle/current reserves; the MF’s are now more than up to the job.
Krell KAV-300il Integrated Amp
I don't normally do reviews but in this case, I've no hesitation in making an exception.
John was upfront about mentioning the timescale he'd be aiming for to get my amp fully restored. To my surprise, given these challenging times, he proved to be a man of his word. I know it couldn't have been easy for him so I'm very grateful.
It sounds a bit clichéd but nevertheless, after speaking to John on several occasions, I have realised that he has forgotten more about the technical details of HIFi equipment that I'll ever know.
My system has never sounded better. I was going to sell the amp for a small profit but "dammit" John I'm now going to keep it as a backup.
MUSICAL FIDELITY TRI-VISTA 21 DAC
We've all been to really good concerts and feel well entertained. Have you ever had a close look at the musicians face when they're playing? You can tell who's enjoying entertaining you. They always have this excruciating painful look, the most screwed up faces when the bass is digging deep or the guitarist is floating on another planet, the keyboardist forget he's part of a band doing his or her own thing and the drummer cannot hit the drums hard enough with the ugliest expressions. That's how I now behave every time I put an album on. I'm playing every instrument with the most screwed up face my wife has ever seen on me, she was about to try and resuscitate me. Playing James Brown, Pink Floyd, Herbie Hancock, Marvin Gaye, Brian Auger,A.W.B, I'm in the band having a concert in my listening room. Thank you John for advising me on the best and full upgrade for my dac. This Tri-Vista Dac is now truly Musical.
Magic requires time and skill
After nearly 1 year my Musical Fidelity XA200 amplifiers are back at home.
They sound beautifully, I’m afraid not being able to find more subtleties in the sound; to me, they sounded great also before the repair/upgrade. In fact, they sound(ed) so good I am cold when I listen to some “super systems” at shows. If I listen to the music I know well, at home, I can hear the fingers on the cords, or the breath of the musician before blowing into the brass; It does not happen on some of my friends systems costing ten times mine. ( Pre Meridian , Sonus Faber Electa Amator speakers, if wondering)
That said, I am sure Sir John did a great work. I think he must have had some problem, since I was without news from him for several months, and I was a little worried, but now everything is ok. The damage I have done to my amps was horrible, he said ( I shorted one of them badly ) and I sure believe him, since the official service I contacted in Italy told me the unit was beyond hope. Instead, he made the magic.
I think that some kind of magic requires some time.
Thank You so much ! Grazie infinite !
