After John repaired my Sub, I bit the bullet and decided to have my Creek 5050 repaired and upgraded. I have had the Amp since the early 90s and its always been solid but over the years, the switches have worn, losing channels and it needed some love.John explained what could be done to take my amp to another level or I fork out a lot money to try and replace it. No brainer.
I collected it, all clean and switches all working. Got home and plugged the amp in. Sounds great and I`m sure with time to bed in, it will improve further.
Great repair, great upgrade, great service and a great technician.
A stunning improvement!
After reading the many positive testimonials on this site and speaking with John himself about the upgrade procedure I decided to go all out and go for the full upgrade using the best components.
I sent in my Musical Fidelity A5 Pre and Power amps for John to work his magic on separately with a space of several months between and was able to clearly hear the differences of each unit upgrade.
All I can say is the upgrades delivered EXACTLY what John promised, richer more realistic tone, tighter controlled bass and power, wider more lifelike soundstage, quieter, blacker background and spades more detail in the sound to boot. You feel like you're really hearing into the music now, becoming aware of ambient cues in the recording and enveloped in a wide, deep and clean soundstage.
He has improved my system's musical capability tenfold.
I would highly recommend John's upgrade programme for your existing Musical Fidelity gear. His standard of workmanship is excellent and you can feel his passion in conversation for making your hi-fi perform to its best capability.
Thank you John.
Rel Sub Loss of Sound
Not an easy fault to find but John stuck with it to find the issue and eventually found it.
Highly recommend his services.
Pioneer Receiver SX-980 lives on
Many thanks John for your excellent work on my 1979 Pioneer SX-980 Receiver.
The Pioneer had begun to show it's age and over time you don’t really notice the slow degradation in the sound. Along with some repairs and fixes required I was in two minds about what to do, buy new or refurbish the Pioneer. Searching for months, it was a struggle to find someone to entrust the work to but through recommendation from Retrotech Audio in Caterham, John was happy to take on the task.
I am so pleased I was encouraged to refurbish rather than buy a replacement. In fact John suggested I had the repairs sorted out, then to refurbish and upgrade, replacing the aged and degraded components to the power supply, amplifier, protection circuit and tuner. This would give me many more years of the warm and detailed sound I’d grown to love. The result has been excellent, much better than I expected, maybe better than it's ever sounded. Brighter, cleaner, bigger, more detail and alive. A little like a door has been opened. These late seventies, early eighties Japanese amplifiers and receivers were beautifully designed and built. Now the refurbishment has given back it’s sound quality to match it’s glamorous looks.
There were a lot of man-hours in this job so I’m very pleased I gave the project to an expert like John Samson and that he encouraged me to go for the fixes, refurbishment and upgrade that will give me another 35 years of fun.
I previously owned a Musical Fidelity M6i Amplifier and this was good but after a few years the upgrade bug bit so I contacted John for advise on which Amplifier I should buy with a view to it being "the last Amplifier I would ever need to buy" John advised me to try and get hold of a kW500 as they are rare with only 500 having been made, a few days later luckily one appeared on eBay and the rest is history.
I sent it to John for the "Full Monty" upgrade, when it came back I unboxed it and it was like brand new, plugged it all in and left it powered on overnight, the following day I put on some of my favorite music, and I was blown away by the stunning sound quality, Detail, Separation, sound staging all absolutely brilliant! I am literally getting a completely different listening experience and John informs me it will be at least another 200 hours of use before it's at it's best!
This is by far the best sounding Amplifier I have ever heard and I have heard a fair few all of them way more expensive than the cost of the Kw500 and Johns "Full Monty" upgrade!.
John is a really nice bloke and a pleasure to deal with, cannot recommend him highly enough, if you are after amazing sound quality without braking the bank John is the guy for the job!
Thanks John for enabling me to experience true high end Hi-Fi at an affordable cost.
